Ning Smith, PhD, is an Investigator and a member of CHR's Biostatistics Core. Her research areas include obesity and obesity-related health conditions in children and young adults, and issues related to vaccine effectiveness and safety. She also studies quality-of-care issues related to the use electronic medical and administrative records in research.

Dr. Smith consults with other researchers on statistical methods such as multiple comparisons, multivariate analyses, logistic regression, longitudinal data analysis, mixed effects and generalized linear models, and survival analysis.

Before joining CHR, Dr. Smith was a biostatistician in the Department of Research and Evaluation at the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, she worked at Merck in the Department of Vaccine Biometric Research. At Merck, she conducted simulation studies and data-analysis work for clinical trials of vaccines.

She received her master's and PhD in biostatistics from the University of Michigan. Her dissertation was on joint modeling of survival and longitudinal data and its application in cancer research. She received her bachelor's degree in economics from Nankai University in Tianjin, China.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
