    Collapse overview
Dr. Hechter has three main areas of focus in her research: 1) Prevention of and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, HIV- associated cardiovascular disease and aging, impact of psychiatric disorders and substance abuse on HIV care engagement, and disparities in HIV treatment adherence and outcomes. 2) Chronic care model and sustainable interventions to improve substance abuse treatment outcomes and provide integrated care for individuals with substance use disorders who also have other serious co-occurring chronic conditions or infections and 3) The safety and effectiveness of vaccines, and the influence of policy and systemic intervention on vaccine uptake in children and adults. She is the principal investigator of a CDC-funded study to evaluate syphilis treatment response in an HIV/syphilis coinfected population, and the co-investigator (site PI) of a National Institute of Nursing Research-funded study to explore contextual factors and disparities in HIV testing, linkage, and retention in care. Dr. Hechter also serves as site PI on a National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded study to implement and evaluate effectiveness of an innovative system that incorporates motivational interviewing and service matching in addiction treatment and utilizes a standard web-based real-time assessment tool to improve patient engagement. She is site PI of the Addiction Research Network (ARN) within the HMORN (Health Maintenance Organization Research Network).

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
