Dr. Doug Corley, MD, PhD is a Research Scientist III and the Permanente Medical Group’s Chief Research Officer for Kaiser Permanente, Northern California. His expertise includes building collaborative, transdisciplinary teams; developing large clinical and translational research programs; and creating rapid-cycle, high-value evidence-to-healthcare-transformation cycles. These include systematic efforts to evaluate and decrease disparities in healthcare processes and outcomes. He has led multi-center, team-based collaborations; executed over 50 federal and industry grants; authored >300 scientific articles; developed international recognition through practice-changing publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and other leading journals; and transformed a leading specialty journal as its Co-Editor-in-Chief leading to a >50% increase in its overall impact. His goal is to develop enjoyable, productive collaborations from idea initiation, to team & funding creation, to impactful implementation.

After completing medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Corley completed an internal medicine residency at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital of the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts; and a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Corley subsequently obtained a master’s degree in public health and a doctorate in epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health. Prior to joining the Division of Research, he was on the full-time gastroenterology faculty at UCSF, where he was the chief of the UCSF GI Faculty Practice.
